How long have you been a Warriors fan?
My first Warriors memory would’ve been a 1983 game against the Los Angeles Lakers. For whatever reason, I remember Mickey Johnson, who only had a few years with the Warriors, having a good game. For about 27 years of my 33 years in existence, I’ve been a Warriors fan.
Fav. Current Warrior? Why?
I really like Stephen Curry. I like the way he creates on the court. I think he’s a special talent who can make other players better and who can also shoot deep. I’m not sure about the comparison to Steve Nash, but I can definitely see why they make it. And Nash struggled in his first few years, whereas Curry has excelled in his rookie season.
Fav. All-time Warrior? Why?
Tim Hardaway is my favorite Warrior of all-time. He was the most electric player that they’ve had since I’ve been watching and he just looked like he was having so much fun. If I could choose a guy who is very close, it’d be Sleepy Floyd. He was the first player that I ever tried to mimic when I started playing ball.
Fav. Moment?
I think beating the Mavs as the 8th seed is the easy answer. But there were so many other moments that I just loved. I’m going with the Sleepy Floyd game in the playoffs because it wasn’t just about him going crazy and single-handedly winning a basketball game. It was him doing all of that against the Lakers, who were a top 10 all-time team.
Worst moment as a Warriors fan?
It wasn’t any game or any season. It was Chris Webber tucking his dress into his pantyhose and leaving the team in 1993-1994 because he didn’t like his coach. I know he’s a likable guy and he had a really good career, but that moment changed the landscape of the team so quickly. When that happened, I promised myself to never root for that guy ever again, and I haven’t.
What’s your feelings on the current Ownership/Management of the Warriors?
This is a lay-up. They’re terrible. The short answer is that you have the blind leading the blind. Someone needs to save us.
You’re named Warriors GM, How would you improve the team? What changes do you think need to be made?
This isn’t a lay-up. But I think I’d build around two players. I’d target Steph Curry and Anthony Randolph as the two players to build around. I actually like Monta and he’s showed before that he can play with a dominant point guard. But his current style isn’t as compatible with what I’d want. If they luck out in the draft and get someone like Evan Turner, that’d be three players to build around. I’d keep Morrow, Turiaf, Watson, and Azubuike and take best offers for picks, big men, and defenders for everyone else.
You can bring any current NBA player to the Warriors, who would it be?
How can it not be LeBron? He’s the most dominant player when it comes to getting to the rim and he passes the ball like a point guard. Kobe might be the best player in the league when it comes to winning basketball games, but LeBron is just steps behind him. But he’d be the guy and there isn’t anyone close.
Finish the sentence, When the warriors win the championship, I will…..?
…have a smile on my face that goes for miles and miles. And I’ll forgive Chris Cohan, Don Nelson, Joe Barry Carroll, Joe Smith, Mike Dunleavy, Gilbert Arenas, Zarko Cabarkapa (just kidding), Erick Dampier, Chris Washburn, Ralph Sampson, Rony Seikaly, Latrell Sprewell, and Chris Webber. Ok, maybe not Chris Webber.
