The Warriors have 14 roster spots filled as of now, and it’s looking like there’s going to be a competition for that last spot.
The Warriors have decided to extend a training camp invitation to Phil Pressey, who played with both the Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns last season.
Pressey is a 5’11” point guard who isn’t a great shooter, but a nice distributor who brings a brand of scrappiness to the court. Pressey is competing for that final roster spot with guys like JaVale McGee and Elliot Williams.
It’ll be a fierce battle between those three for a chance to be that last piece on a potentially historic team.
Three players from that Warriors core are currently preparing to play Argentina in the quarterfinals, and they along with the rest of Team USA are coming off numerous close games to end Group A.
Argentina derailed USA’s quest for gold at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and USA eventually had to settle for the bronze medal.
Since that game, USA hasn’t lost a game at any Olympics. The loss catalyzed the resurgence of USA basketball, and the results since then have been impressive.
Manu Ginobili, Carlos Delfino, Andres Nocioni, and Luis Scola were on that 2004 Argentina team, and will try on Wednesday to hand USA another devastating loss 12 years later.
