Kevin Durant signing with the Warriors has certainly been a polarizing transaction. A long list of former players have given their opinion on the matter, and the latest to do so is Tracy McGrady.
In the name of competitive spirit, McGrady said he was very disappointed that Durant chose to sign with the Warriors.
McGrady supported Durant’s right to leave Oklahoma City as a free agent, but was disheartened that he chose the team that the Thunder lost a 3-1 series lead against.
McGrady thought it should have motivated Durant to want to stay with his championship contending team and get over the hump with them.
The irony of McGrady making these negative comments about Durant joining up with superstars is that McGrady signed with the Magic the same offseason as Grant Hill back in 2000, and Tim Duncan came very close to joining them.
The Raptors may not have been on the level of the Thunder, but McGrady is a curious person to criticize a player for wanting to play on a team with multiple superstars.
Durant is focused on bringing home a gold medal for Team USA right now, though. The U.S. basketball team is now in Rio and preparing for the tournament.
They are deservedly the heavy favorites to win the gold medal after their spectacularly dominant exhibition performances.
