With all the talk of raised anxiety regarding Team USA basketball in these Olympics, it’d be easy to come to the conclusion that they’re severely underachieving.
It’s all relative, and although Team USA is still undefeated in Rio, their last few games have been closer than usual.
Team USA may be a victim of it’s own dominance, evidenced by the fact that going undefeated in Group A has still evoked concerns.
The team is used to blowing out opponents, so when a game is tight, there’s the worry that something’s wrong.
After coming dangerously close to losing to Team Serbia, Team USA also just barely edged Team France 100-97.
Tony Parker sat out this game with a toe injury, which is even more concerning from Team USA’s perspective.
Had Parker been able to play, who knows if Team USA would have been able to pull out the win.
The knockout stage begins on Wednesday, and Team USA doesn’t yet know who they’ll be playing in their first elimination game.
Klay Thompson scored 30 points in the win against Team France, which was especially refreshing, considering how badly he had struggled on offense during these Olympics.
Kevin Durant finished with 17 points on 6-6 shooting, moving into the top 5 all time for Team USA in points scored.
