The Golden State Warriors devoted much of their energy on the NBA’s opening day of free agency trying to lure Kevin Durant to the Bay Area.
Joe Lacob, Bob Myers, Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Andre Iguodala all met with Durant in the Hamptons to sell him on the idea of taking his talents to a team that was able to win a league record 73 games without him.
The Warriors now must sit back and wait for Durant to finish meeting with the other teams he’s scheduled to talk with. It doesn’t mean that the Warriors are being held hostage by him with no alternative, however.
Rumors are circulating that the Warriors are in the hunt for Pau Gasol if they can’t acquire Durant. Gasol may be aging, but he’s still an extremely productive scorer, rebounder, and shot blocker who can make an already historically talented team even better.
Free agency is going to continue riveting the basketball community as different dominos fall. The Warriors are determined to use this period to try to make their team even better than it already is. Remember… this is just Day 1.
