Warriors News: Warriors Contact TNT to Address Concerns With McGee-Shaq Feud

It’s been an interesting 18-24 hours for the Golden State Warriors. We should be talking about the Warriors beating the Clippers at Oracle Arena. Or we could be talking about the fact that the Clippers haven’t beat the Warriors since 2014, that is 10 in a row for the Dubs.

Instead, the focus has been on Draymond Green. What’s new? The All-Star forward got into it with Paul Pierce and that has dominated the headlines. Any time Draymond gets a technical or shows any emotion, it’s usually the number one topic on all of the day time sports shows.

However, today JaVale McGee took some of the spotlight off of his teammate, but not intentionally. Shaquille O’Neal and the TNT crew prepared a Doctor Strange parody that featured McGee and most of his famous “Shaqtin’ a Fool” moments.

McGee was not happy about it and that is understandable. The big man took to Twitter to voice his frustration with Shaq, but that quickly turned into heated exchange between the two. Today, the Warriors got involved. According to Chris Haynes and Marc Stein of ESPN, the Warriors have contacted Turner Sports in regards to O’Neal’s continued mockery of McGee:

Sources told ESPN that the Warriors contacted Turner officials to express concern about TNT’s yearslong McGee coverage on the “Shaqtin’ a Fool” segment on the popular “Inside The NBA” show, with the team contending that the ongoing negative portrayal of the veteran center is doing unnecessary damage to McGee’s reputation.

A Turner source confirmed the discussions with the Warriors and told ESPN that “the matter has been discussed internally” after a Twitter feud erupted Thursday night between O’Neal and McGee.

McGee’s teammates came to his defense, but the organization took it another level and contacted Turner directly. The nature of the conversations have not been revealed, but surely it will make the next episode of Inside the NBA an interesting one. McGee is part of the Warrior family and his teammates and the organization did the right thing by backing up their big man.

You can’t blame McGee for being fed up with all of O’Neal’s insults over the years. At first it felt like it was all in good fun, but no other player has been made fun of more than McGee. Everybody has a breaking point and McGee finally had it enough. He had been a good sport over the years and simply stood up for himself.

It’s unlikely you will see O’Neal apologize, but at the very least McGee won’t have to worry about being the butt of all his jokes.
