Despite being oh so close to breaking the Chicago Bulls’ record for most wins in a single-season, the Golden State Warriors are on the brink of another piece of history. With a win at Oracle Arena tonight, Golden State will have tied Chicago’s record for most consecutive regular season home wins.
The record, which the Bulls set from March 30, 1995 through April 4, 2016, stands at 44 straight wins. The Warriors, who started their streak on January 31, 2015, have rattled off 43 consecutive home victories. It hasn’t come without some real nail-biters, though. Even this season, the team had to survive a scare from the Brooklyn Nets just roughly two weeks into the season. Such is life, though.
Golden State plays against the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight, a team that is coming off of an epic collapse down the stretch on Wednesday night in Los Angeles against the Clippers. The Thunder blew a 22-point lead in that game, and gave up a 22-3 run over the game’s final five minutes. The Thunder will be angry and motivated, but also tired. We’ll see what happens.
Either way, the Warriors are just one home win shy of tying the Bulls’ record. With a win tonight, they’ll have put their name next to the legendary 1995-96 Chicago Bulls yet again. The two franchises, and seasons, definitely do seem to go hand-in-hand at this point. It’s almost as if the Warriors breaking their records are written in the stars.
The date that the Warriors can break Chicago’s record is March 7. They play the Orlando Magic that night. The Bulls had their 44-game regular season home winning streak ended by the Charlotte Hornets by one point after Chicago missed about four tip-ins to win in the final few seconds. Let’s hope Golden State can avoid a similar fate as they attempt to break another one of Chicago’s precious records.
