It’s award season in the NBA. With most of them already announced, the NBA MVP is the big one that everybody is waiting for and hopefully they get it right and award it to Stephen Curry. Draymond Green and Steve Kerr both were snubbed, so at the very least they can get the MVP award right.
The Warriors have bigger things to worry about than individual awards, but it is nice to be recognized for your hard work. The Professional Basketball Writers Association hands out a few awards of their own and they have given Steve Kerr the 2014-15 Rudy Tomjanovich Award:
Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors has won the 2014-15 Rudy Tomjanovich Award, which honors a coach for his cooperation with the media and fans, as well as his excellence on the court, the Professional Basketball Writers Association announced today.
Kerr is a former member of the media, so he understand what it is like to be on the other side of the microphone, which is why he is always polite and gracious during his interviews. The PBWA recognized that and gave him the award. Too many times we see coaches and players mistreat the media, so it’s refreshing to have somebody like Kerr who is a class act when it comes to fulfilling his media duties.
In his first season as the head coach of the Warriors Kerr has had a lot of success. 67 wins in the regular season, which is a record for a rookie head coach and it gave the Warriors home court advantage throughout the playoffs. Kerr and the Warriors still have a long journey ahead, but they are prepared for it.
