The Golden State Warriors have played 45 games this season and they’ve won 37 of them. They’ve played spectacular basketball and the players have been racking up awards. Klay Thompson has been player of the week three times and Steph Curry was the leading All-Star vote getter, beating out LeBron James in the process.
Head coach Steve Kerr has received a lot of credit for this team’s success and he deserves it. He has come into Golden State and adapted to this team’s strengths and turned this squad into an offensive juggernaut. Well, it looks like Kerr is finally getting recognition from the league. Here’s a tweet from the official account of the NBA:
Coach Mike Budenholzer of the @ATLHawks (17-0) & Coach @SteveKerr of the @Warriors (12-3) named NBA Coaches of the Month for January!
— NBA (@NBA) February 2, 2015
Kerr led the Warriors to a 12-3 record in the month of January and they still have the best record in the Western Conference. The rookie head coach has done a marvelous job of putting the Warriors in the best position to win. He’s changed things up in the starting line-up and he has not let injuries derail this team, but more importantly he has limited his veteran’s minutes.
Kerr should be a candidate for Coach of the Year, especially if the Warriors can maintain this pace. Although this is his first year on the sidelines, Kerr looks like belongs. and it seems like Kerr has been doing this for years.
The Hawks and Warriors face off on Friday, February 6th.
