The Golden State Warriors had arguably the greatest regular season ever. While it was long and the Warriors may or may not have gotten bored towards the end, the Warriors finished with the best regular season record ever. That definitely helped Steve Kerr’s case for Coach of the Year.
According to Marc J Spears of Yahoo Sports, the 2015-16 NBA Coach of the Year award has been earned by Kerr:

The other leading vote-getters were (in order): Terry Stotts, Gregg Popovich, Steve Clifford, and Dwane Casey. Coach Kerr earned 64 first place votes while second place Stotts finished with 37.
Although the Dubs had two head coaches, technically, all 73 wins went to Steve Kerr’s resume. Luke Walton stepped in and guided the Warriors through the first 43 games (39-4).
Last year, the Warriors also finished at the top of the NBA but the Coach of the Year was earned by the Atlanta Hawk’s Mike Budenholzer. In case you were wondering, this is the first Coach of the Year award since Don Nelson in the 1991-92 season.
