The Golden State Warriors don’t have another game until Friday, but they should be able to enjoy the beat down they gave the Lakers last night for the next few days. The Warriors went into Staples Center and were in control from the opening tip.
The one bright spot for the Lakers was Kobe Bryant. He was a one man show out there and finished the game with 44 points. Well, even that wasn’t enough to impress one particular Warrior, according to Baxter Holmes of ESPN NBA:
Marreese Speights on Kobe: “We look up there, and we see that we’re winning by 30, 40 points, that 44 is really is irrelevant.”

Speights has been on fire as of late, which has given the big man some confidence. Those are strong words coming from Speights, but he’s right. It was a wasted effort because the Lakers were never in the game. Bryant would hit a miraculous shot and the Warriors would respond in less than five seconds on the other end. They could have let Kobe drop 81 and it still would not have mattered.
The Warriors kept the Lakers as a team in check all game long. All the previous years of the Lakers dominating the Pacific division is clearly in the past and now it’s time to look towards the future. Hopefully that includes a Larry O’Brien trophy.
