It must feel pretty special to know that the President of the United States congratulated you on a major achievement. That’s what happened when President Obama sent out a tweet that praised the Golden State Warriors on a record-setting season. It was pretty great to see.
When the Warriors and the president met in early February, and the president promptly talked about how amazing the team’s “small-ball nuclear lineup” happened to be. With Golden State winning their 73rd game of the season to finish the season with the most wins in NBA history, he said he was glad it was them:
Congrats to the @Warriors, a great group of guys on and off the court. If somebody had to break the Bulls’ record, I’m glad it’s them.

Most of us will never know what it’s like to meet a president or even have a president acknowledge our own personal existence, so this is a pretty awesome honor for Golden State to receive. It’s one befitting of the best regular-season team in NBA history, and one that they fully earned on the court.
The Warriors will open up their defense of the NBA championship that they won last season with a 12:30 PM local tip time on Saturday afternoon as they play against the Houston Rockets, the team that Golden State vanquished in the Western Conference Finals one year ago.
