Klay giving back

The Warriors lost their first game in over a month on Tuesday. You can’t expect the Warriors to win them all, but they had a chance to make it 17 in a row, but came up a bit short. The Warriors now face the Oklahoma City Thunder at Oracle Arena tonight and the Warriors hope they can start another winning streak by beating Kevin Durant and company.

Before the Warriors got a chance to play the Thunder, Klay Thompson already has another win under his belt. The Splash Brother received the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for his charitable work in November.  The award is given every month and Thompson’s work with the community in November was recognized by the NBA.

Thompson donated $20,000 to the City of Oakland to help fund the annual thanksgiving dinner that fed over 20,000 families. He also works closely with the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA. Thompson is extremely active in the community and his efforts are greatly appreciated by the Oakland/SF community.

Klay Thompson is a great player on the court, but an even better person off of it.

Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson received the NBA Cares Community Assist Award for November in recognition of his generosity and ongoing charitable efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area community, it was announced today. The award recognizes an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion the league and its players have for giving back to their communities. The NBA is honoring Thompson for his continued commitment to giving back to those in need in the Bay Area by donating $10,000 on Thompson’s behalf to the Good Tidings Foundation.

“Our fans are no doubt the best in the NBA and it’s an honor that I’m in a place where I can help support them and our entire Bay Area community throughout the year, but especially during the holidays,” said Thompson. “I wanted to do something around Thanksgiving because I believe Thanksgiving dinner is something that every family should have the opportunity to enjoy together during the holidays and it’s my pleasure to give back to these families in need.”

Thompson’s efforts during the month of November included a variety of elements related to the Thanksgiving holiday. Thompson donated $20,000 to the City of Oakland’s Annual Thanksgiving Dinner, providing over 2,000 low-income families, seniors and homeless individuals with a Thanksgiving meal this holiday season. Joining his teammates, Thompson also surprised a deserving Bay Area family with a shopping spree at Lucky Supermarket to ensure they had a memorable Thanksgiving. In addition, Thompson took time out of his schedule to serve a Thanksgiving-style dinner and play interactive games with families and youth from Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco, Youth Chance High School, Stay Alive and Free, and Embarcadero, Mission and Bayview Hunters Point YMCAs at the team’s Thanksgiving Dinner event. All of these events took part during the Warriors Plays for the Holidays and NBA Cares’ Season of Giving Campaign.

Every year Thompson also partners with the Good Tidings Foundation to take a group of children on a shopping spree and to enjoy a holiday meal. This Friday, December 19, Klay will take the sixth grade class from Eastside Prep in East Palo Alto on a shopping spree to Talbots Toyland in San Mateo. In 2015, Thompson and Good Tidings also plan on partnering to build a youth basketball court in the Bay Area. Throughout the Holiday season, Thompson also takes part in a variety of fan meet and greets before and after games with local community groups and fans from his ticket section, the Klaymakers. Every season, Thompson has donated 12 tickets for each Warriors home game to his player section to allow underserved families and youth to have the opportunity to attend an NBA game.
