The Warriors got off to a rough start in the Western Conference Finals, losing the first game to the Oklahoma City Thunder on their home floor where they have been close to unbeatable this season. The Dubs didn’t panic, they bounced back with a statement victory in Game 2, beating the Thunder 118-91.
This team is resilient and losing one game to the Thunder did not phase them, which is why they are the favorites to win the NBA title. It starts from the top and the Warriors have arguably the best ownership group and front office in all of sports. Yesterday, they were recognized by the Sports Business Awards in New York.
The Warriors were named Sports Team of the Year and Joe Lacob was named Sports Executive of the Year, two of the most prestigious awards presented yesterday. The Warriors are searching for another Larry O’Brien trophy, but now they have more hardware to add to the trophy case.
Last season, the Dubs finished with an impressive 67-15 record to lead the league. Without getting complacent, the team chose to pursue greatness and finished with an unthinkable 73-9 regular season record. With another successful campaign led by Stephen Curry, the superstar won his second MVP award in unanimous fashion, the first time in league history. Mix this in with the giving spirit of Draymond Green, a team that plays together, and a top-tier front office and you have a recipe for greatness.

An external panel of sports business executives studied the nominations and served as category judges. Those executives and staff of SportsBusiness Journal/Daily evaluated the nominees and determined the winners in 15 of the 17 categories by private vote. The other two categories, Sports Executive of the Year and Athletic Director of the Year, were judged solely by the editorial staff of SportsBusiness Journal/Daily.
