The 2015-16 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award, presented by Kaiser Permanente, will be determined by fans and a distinguished panel of NBA judges. Kaiser Permanente and the NBA will donate $25,000 to the winner’s charity of choice.

At the start of the 2015-16 season, Green donated $3.1 million to his alma mater, Michigan State, the largest single gift to MSU Athletics by a former student-athlete. Throughout the 2015-16 season, Green took an active role in a variety of campaigns including #LeanInTogether, joining the NBA, LeanIn.org, the NBPA and the WNBA to launch the second year of #LeanInTogether, an ongoing public awareness campaign focused on the important role men play in reaching equality; Green joined the advisory board of RISE to help advance race relations; participated in the Warriors and Adobe’s anti-bullying campaign Not On Our Ground; granted wishes for youth hosting 13 year-old Je’Kob from Las Vegas, NV at a Warriors game; launched a new partnership with The First Tee of the East Bay to help further its impact with at-risk and underserved youth in the Oakland/Hayward communities; participated in multiple Warriors Basketball Camps in the Bay Area; became the spokesperson for the Warriors and Bay Area BMW’s Go Green platform informing fans on how to be “green” at home; along with being one of the most active players in the Warriors Season of Giving Efforts. This past year, as part of the Warriors Season of Giving campaign, Green partnered with the Oakland Marriott to provide a Thanksgiving luncheon for families and youth from the Richmond Police Activities League (PAL). Green also joined his teammates alongside 3,000 season ticket holders to support #hashtaglunchbag by creating and delivering 20,000 lunch bags to those less fortunate. The All-Star power forward’s Season of Giving efforts did not end there, as Green took 30 youth from a local homeless shelter in Oakland, the Covenant House, on a surprise shopping spree with The Clorox Company for the Holidays. In addition, Green created his own Holiday Caravan and dressed up as Santa Claus to spread cheer and surprised local families with gifts, including inviting a family to come to the Warriors Practice Facility to open presents and spend time with the rest of the team. Another stop on his Holiday Caravan included a visit to the local Kaiser Permanente hospital to drop off gifts for youth spending their holidays away from home. All the families received on-on-one time with Green as he handed out clothes, shoes, toys and gift certificates to each family member.

If awarded the 2015-16 Seasonlong NBA Cares Community Assist Award, presented by Kaiser Permanente, Green’s charity of choice to receive the $25,000 donation is The First Tee of the East Bay, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is a positive youth development organization whose mission is to impact the lives of underserved youth in Oakland and Hayward by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
