David Lee has been a model citizen on and off the court in his time here with the Golden State Warriors. He has made two All-Star teams in his career, but this year accepted a lesser role for the good of the team.

Lee has shown he is capable of being a force in the paint, but what you might now know is how nice and generous he is off the court. When he is not helping the Warriors off the bench this season, Lee is lending a hand.
This past week Lee visited the St. Jude Children’s Hospital to interact with some of the kids and also made $75,000 donation. Lee’s been to St. Jude’s twice this season and the support that he provides is priceless.
St Jude’s is currently working with the NBA to put together “Hoops for St. Jude Week”, which runs from April 3-9 in an effort to raise awareness for all the work this hospital does for children.
Here’s an excerpt from a press release from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital:
The NBA family will once again come together during Hoops for St. Jude Week™ April 3-9 to raise awareness of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s® lifesaving work and celebrate the league’s long-standing support of the world-class hospital. The support of NBA stars, coaches, broadcasters and fans helps St. Jude continue leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
The players’ support – both financial and celebrity – helps in multiple ways. It will cost $885 million to run St. Jude in 2015, and 75 percent of those funds will be raised through individual contributions, with an average donation of just $34.Thanks to support generated through campaigns like Hoops for St. Jude Week, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
St. Jude does such an amazing job with the children and their families. They could use all the help they can get and it’s great to see NBA stars take time out of their busy schedule and visit these kids that are going through a difficult time.
The Hoops for St. Jude week campaign is a great way for basketball fans to get involved. You don’t have to be an NBA star to make a difference. Any donation is appreciated, especially with most of the funds being raised coming from individual contributions. The average donations is $34 and most of us are fortunate enough to afford that.
Lee might have critics when he is on the court, but he does not receive enough credit off of it. His time and donation will go a long way and hopefully it inspires other Warriors and NBA players to lend their time to the children that need all the help they can get.
