The Golden State Warriors are off to one of the best starts in franchise history. Expectations keep growing for the Warriors, but as long as they continue playing like they’ve shown so far, they should be able to exceed those expectations. Coach Steve Kerr brought in a new offense, which better suits the talents of this team. After struggling offensively in the Mark Jackson era, this Warriors team is lethal on the offensive end.
Andrew Bogut is pleased with the direction of the new offense. He is being asked to be more aggressive when he gets the ball in his hands, instead of just focusing on the defensive end. Kerr has said from day one that he expects Bogut to be a big part of the offense and according to Ronny Lerner of the Sydney Morning Herald, Bogut credits coach Kerr for turning around his career:
“I don’t think it’s so much a physical thing, for me it’s a big mental thing,” Bogut told SEN on Tuesday. “Having a coach that has the confidence in me, even with the scorers in Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson), to say, ‘We want you to be aggressive and look for your own shot’, it does wonders for my game.
“It’s huge, I’m a huge confidence player and I think Steve Kerr’s been unbelievable so far.
“They’re running me in the high post a lot more and utilizing my passing and it’s been great so far. Steve Kerr’s turned around my career and getting me back involved offensively, too, helps.”
Confidence is an integral part for any player in any sport. Bogut plays with a lot of passion and for him to have his coach and teammates supporting him on the offensive end, it means a great deal for the Australian big man.
In the first 10 games of the season, Bogut has averaged 8.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He is already scoring more points than the last two seasons and it’s likely he is able to increase his totals as the season rolls along. His highest scoring average came in the 2009-10 season, he finished the season with a 15.9 points per game average.
Bogut looks rejuvenated. He is no longer an afterthought on the offensive end and that’s because of Kerr. For a rookie head coach, he is doing a tremendous job with this squad and this is only the beginning .
