Yes, it’s only been one game, but this offense already looks substantially better than last season. The Warriors made a coaching change this off-season, which came as a surprise after Mark Jackson had helped the Warriors regain some success. His record in the regular season was 121-109 and led the Warriors to two post-season appearances.
There was finally some buzz around the Golden State Warriors. With Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in the back court, this team was built to be an offensive juggernaut, but it wasn’t. Problems with the front office and management were some of the reasons Jackson was let go, but ultimately his inability to generate a potent offense was also a major factor.
Enter Steve Kerr. Like Jackson, Kerr is a rookie head coach, but it sure does not feel like it. Since taking over the reins in the Bay Area, he has brought a much improved offensive system. The pre-season gave us a glimpse of how his offense will dramatically help the Warriors win more games this season. There is more of an emphasis on passing and spacing on the floor and the bigs will be much more involved in the process. While Curry is a point guard, he will spend a lot of time off the ball and come off screens to hit some easy jumpers.
