The Golden State Warriors are not used to losing here at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, but it finally happened at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers. After a disappointing loss in the final seconds, the Warriors needed to get back on track if they wanted to defend their NBA Summer League championship. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Hawks took a page out of the Lakers summer playbook and were able to win the game in the final seconds.

The Warriors looked great early on, functioning on offense like a well oiled machine. However, after looking great to start the game, the Warriors began to turn the ball over. The Hawks have a talented young player in Dennis Schroder and he was able to take advantage of those mistakes. Schroder would go on to lead all scorers in the first half and he was able to give the Hawks the lead, but the Warriors were able to cut it to four by the end of the first half.

The Hawks kept their foot on the gas to start the second half and were able to extend their lead to double digits. After it looked like the Warriors were out of the game, they gave it one final run and that was with no help from the officials. Throughout the game they went on small spurts, but the refs always seemed to stop their momentum. The Warriors didn’t let that stop them and were able to get the lead down to one after Holiday’s bucket. After successfully getting the stop on the defensive end, James Michael McAdoo drove the lane and was fouled in the process. Unfortunately, McAdoo missed both free throws.

After almost getting a steal on the inbounds play, the Hawks were able to sink two free throws and the Warriors were down by three. Holiday gave it a heroic effort, but the ball rimmed in-and-out. The Warriors are officially eliminated from the playoffs, but their next and final game is played on Friday at 1:30 PDT against Jabari Parker and the Milwaukee Bucks in the consolation game.
