4. Drafting Klay Thompson
In 2011, the Warriors found themselves in the lottery again. They made a selection that is still relevant to the franchise today by picking Klay Thompson.
To win an NBA title, you need a two-guard that can either defend the team’s best player or to give you 20 points a night, Thompson can do both. Thompson is one of the few players in the league that can stop his opposition from scoring 20 points, while scoring 20 points himself.
Thompson has risen to become the second best player on the team, behind Stephen Curry, but a star in his own right. Thompson was a no-brainer pick to make the All-Star team this season and even got the nod to start due to injury. He also set NBA history by scoring 37 points in a quarter earlier this season.
Considering Derrick Williams, Enes Kanter, Bismack Biyombo, and Jimmer Fredette was picked before Thompson, the Warriors were one of the few winners of the 2011 draft.
