5. Hiring Steve Kerr
From the Keith Smarts to the Eric Musselmans to the Mike Montgomerys, the Warriors haven’t always been blessed with the greatest of coaches. Mark Jackson was the latest coach to be canned from the Warriors organization and it was in favor of the man that has led the franchise to their best start ever: Steve Kerr.
The asking price for Kerr was high; Joe Lacob and Bob Myers had to go up against several other teams, including Phil Jackson and his New York Knicks. Lacob and Myers were able to eventually lure Kerr in and the success has been astonishingly high for the Dubs.
Kerr was the first Warriors coach since 1992 to coach an All-Star Game and is on pace to also win Coach of the Year. This 42-9 start is no fluke; he has built a credible coaching staff with Alvin Gentry and Ron Adams holding down the fort behind him.
Mark Jackson might have been the caterpillar to help get the Warriors in the right direction, but Kerr certainly looks like the butterfly that can help take the Warriors to the NBA Finals.
