Stephen Curry is one of the most influential athletes in the world, and can proudly boast that he has friends in very high places.

In fact, it doesn’t get much loftier than the Commander in Chief himself, who Curry can call a good friend at this point.

Barack Obama and Curry have gone golfing with each other multiples times, and Curry said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” today that he has superior skills on the links compared to POTUS.

“I’m a better golfer than him,” said Curry, agreeing with First Lady Michelle Obama, who was also a guest on the show.

Curry admitted that Obama had beaten him the last two games, but that was due to handicap. Curry said he has a handicap of two, but wouldn’t disclose what Obama’s handicap was.

Discussing the president’s idiosyncrasies with the First Lady while on the talk show of a famous comedienne is truly emblematic of Curry’s place within our popular culture.

Curry agreed with Michelle that her husband is a big trash talker, describing his style of getting in his opponents’ head with the slow cadence we’ve all become accustomed to during his speeches.

Michelle suggested that Curry trash talk back, and to jibe him about how big his ears are, which admittedly is way easier to do when you’re the president’s wife instead of anybody else in the world.

“Say the shadow of your ears is really messing up my putt,” said Michelle. She has had more than a quarter century to think up material like that.

I wish that talk show hosts got their guests by simply texting people on their contact list to hang out on air for no other reason than to just catch up on what’s going on in their lives, but there’s usually a plug motivating the appearance.

Michelle and Stephen were on promoting a good cause, though. They’re partnered with Brita on an initiative called “Drink Up” to give families an affordable and better tasting water option.

There’s a lot of excitement attached to this Warriors team, and their focal point has become a global icon. This is Steph’s world, and we’re all just living in it.
