Stephen Curry News: Curry Earns 4th WC Player of the Week

Stephen Curry has been phenomenal and that’s still an understatement.  The Warriors played four games this week and continued their winning ways by going 4-0. He averaged an absurd 43.8 points while shooting over 61 percent percent from behind the arc. With his undeniable performances, Curry has claimed another Western Conference Player of the Week award.

This is the fourth Western Conference Player of the Week award for Curry (this season). In the Warriors organization, Curry now owns the lone spot at the top with 6 in his career. Following Curry is Tim Hardaway’s five while Chris Mullin and Baron Davis have claimed four each.

This week, Stephen broke the record for most three-pointers made in season, tied the record for most three-pointers made in a game (12), and outlasted Kyle Korver’s record of consecutive games with a three-pointer made.

STEPHEN CURRY NAMED WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Reigning MVP Averaged 43.8 Points During 4-0 Week To Earn Fourth Weekly Award This Season

OAKLAND, CA – Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, February 22, through Sunday, February 28, the NBA announced today. The award is the fourth such honor for Curry this season, making him the first player in Warriors history to win the award four times in a single season and giving him a franchise-record six career weekly accolades.

Curry led the Warriors to a 4-0 week by averaging 43.8 points, 7.3 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.50 steals in 35.8 minutes and hitting 60.8 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from three-point range (33-of-54). During the week, Curry tied the single-game NBA record for three-point field goals with 12 on Feb. 27 at Oklahoma City—equaling the record on a game-winner with 0.6 seconds remaining in overtime—and broke his own single-season three-point record (currently at 288 threes) in addition to setting a new NBA-mark for consecutive regular-season games with a three-pointer, which now stands at 129-straight games. Curry became the first player in NBA history to hit double-digit threes in back-to-back games (Feb. 25-27) and now has five such games in his career (three this season), more than any player in league annals.

The reigning MVP scored at least 30 points in all four games during the week, matching a career-best streak, while becoming the first Warrior since Rick Barry in 1967 to score at least 40 points in three-straight contests (Feb. 24-27), including his third 50-point effort of the season (fifth career) with 51 points on Feb. 25 at Orlando. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Curry’s 43.8 points are the most by any player in the NBA over a four-game stretch since Kobe Bryant in March 2007, and the most by any player over the course of four-straight games on the road since Michael Jordan in Nov. 1992. Curry is the first player to average at least 43 points on better than 60 percent shooting over a four-game period since Jordan did so from March 26 – April 1, 1990.

With the 4-0 week, Golden State closed out a seven-game road stretch with a 6-1 mark for the second time this season, improving to 53-5 (.914) on the campaign, the best mark through 58 games in NBA history. The Warriors earned their franchise-record 29^th road win on Feb. 27 at Oklahoma City, eclipsing the previous mark of 28 set last season. Golden State clinched a playoff berth on Feb. 27, becoming the first team to clinch a spot in the postseason in February since the 1987-88 Lakers.

The award marks the 41^st time a Warriors player has been named Player of the Week since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979, including the fifth time this season (Draymond Green earned the other accolade for Golden State). Toronto’s Kyle Lowry was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.
