Curry Davidson

Steph Curry is not only one of the best players in the NBA that dazzles you with his shooting and dribbling on a nightly basis, but he’s also one of the more humble professional athletes in the business.

Since Curry has always been a model citizen and even as he garners all this fame and attention, he remains the same. That is not surprising to his former coach Bob McKillop, who coached him three years at Davidson.

McKillop joined the Warriors Huddle Podcast and he shed some light into what Curry was like during his time with the Wildcats. McKillop told the huddle that Curry almost missed his Sophomore season because of a wrist injury, but Steph played through the pain in order to give the seniors a season to remember:

We had a practice six or seven days before our game and Stephen had been bothered by a wrist injury. That day, his dad, our trainer, myself and Stephen sat down, now this is his sophomore year, on the edge of the court in the end zone at Hornets arena while our guys were free shooting before the workout.

Stephen made a decision at that point that he was not going to have surgery and put aside his sophomore year, he was going to play through the pain. Not many people know the story, that he actually almost didn’t play his sophomore year, the Elite 8 year. The comment he made was “I cannot let the Seniors down”

Curry’s sophomore season was the year he took Davidson to the Elite 8, so if he does opt for surgery, we would have not seen his magic during March Madness. We all knew Steph was a great teammate, but this just comes to show the high level of commitment Curry has for this game, but more importantly his teammates.

Davidson was preparing to face Duke when this exchange happened between McKillop, Curry and his dad. While they would go on to lose to Duke 79-67, Steph Curry scored 29 points while playing through a wrist injury. His second year at Davidson would become a record setting year for him and the school.

Davidson was the Cinderella story when they went to the Elite 8 and Curry was able to deliver on his promise. He didn’t let the Seniors down and they walked away with countless memories for the rest of their lives.
