The Warriors star point guard isn’t only popular on the West Coast. Steph Curry is becoming a household name across the country. You can even argue that Curry’s popularity is also reaching international levels, making him the fastest rising star in the NBA.
You can gage a player’s popularity by the amount of jerseys that are bought this his last name on the back. According to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle, Curry is currently in third place in jersey sales in New York:
Top-five selling NBA jerseys in New York (since the start of the season)1) LeBron James2) Carmelo Anthony3) Stephen Curry4) Kevin Durant5) Derrick Rose
The best player in the league, LeBron James and New York Knick, Carmelo Anthony are the only players ahead of Curry in New York. Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose follow the three respectively.
Simmons from the SF Chronicle also provided other stats demonstrating the Warriors as a whole are growing in popularity as well. Since 2015 started, the Warriors are leading the NBA in overall merchandise sold and Curry’s jersey has been the top-seller league wide. Only the Cleveland Cavaliers have sold more merchandise than the Warriors. In perspective, the Dubs have gone up 150 percent in merchandise compared to last season.
Curry is second in jersey sales as a whole this season, only trailing James. The Baby-Faced Assassin’s popularity is rapidly growing. The Warriors are no longer just in the spotlight of the Western Conference, but in the National eye as well.
Curry was the leading vote getter to get into the All-Star game and is now the top candidate in the MVP conversation halfway through the season.
