#1: Magic Johnson vs. Steph Curry
Magic: Prime from 1979/80-1990/91, 19.7 PPG, 11.4 APG, 52.3 FG%, 29.8 3P%, and the title of the 2nd most important player in the history of the NBA (trailing MJ).
Curry: Prime 2012/13-2014/15, 23.6 PPG, 7.7 APG, 46.9 FG%, and 43.0 3P%.
At last, Curry’s offensive value is eclipsed. I’ve talked a lot about Curry’s floor spacing and shooting but when you’re a 6’9” point guard whose patented move is an extended post-up (the baby sky hook) and you run the fast break better than any player in the history of basketball, I concede. Magic was the greatest passer of all-time, leading the league in assists 4 times, averaging the highest number of assists in the history of the playoffs (12.5 APG), and bringing the NBA to mainstream America. Magic not only won 5 rings but his offensive displays helped reset the trajectory of an entire sport -that’s something Steph can’t match.
