When the off-season began, the Warriors had high expectations and were expected to be major players in the off-season market. They didn’t land Kevin Love and haven’t traded David Lee. After signing Justin Holiday a couple of days ago, the roster now stands at 17 and no one expected the Warriors to hand out anymore contracts. However, the Warriors had one pending extension that they wanted to get done before the start of the season, but it didn’t involve an actual player.

The Warriors have been fortunate to have “The Logo” in the front office these last few years and according to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, the Warriors and Jerry West have agreed to a two-year extension to stay with the executive board:

West only had one year remaining in his contract and the Warriors wanted to keep the core of the front office intact. West’s contract will now run through the 2016-17 season, giving him three more opportunities to help the Warriors bring an NBA title to Bay Area. West was instrumental in keeping Klay Thompson with the Warriors after some in the organization wanted to include him in the deal for Kevin Love. Thompson has been great for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup and Warriors fans should be excited about Thompson and Steph Curry remaining together for years to come.

West helped the Lakers three-peat from 1999-2002 and left the Lakers to be the general manager of the Memphis Grizzlies in 2002. He came out of retirement in 2011 to become a consultant for Joe Lacob and also has some ownership stake in the team. Three years later, the Warriors are one of the better teams in the NBA with a championship in their sight.
