On Saturday, Stephen Curry and Under Armour launched the Curry Two DubNation shoe at Jam Town in Oakland with between 300 and 400 excited fans in attendance.
Beyond showing off the new shoe and giving attendees a chance to see the reigning MVP, Under Armour crafted events to keep the fans entertained built around Curry’s unique skills.
The “Quick Draw” station challenged fans to replicate Curry’s quick release by using a stopwatch to time them catching and shooting, hopefully in his four-tenths of a second.
Another event titled “Follow in His Footsteps” built on Curry’s step-back jump shot by showing clips of his baseline trickery and shot against Chris Paul and the Clippers last season. [VIDEO] Unsurprisingly, fans took some creative liberties but some did pretty well with the challenge.
Other activities included a “War Paint” station where kids could get their hands painted with Warriors-inspired art and a dribbling challenge.
After fans had enough time to enjoy those stations, try out their Stephen Curry trivia knowledge and enter for a chance to win some prizes, they got what they really came to Jam Town to see. As someone who has covered Curry for years in a pretty static setting, it was certainly different and fun to see him in this sort of a setting. He talked about the new shoe with Warriors announcer Bob Fitzgerald, showed a video about the DubNation Curry Two and took pictures with fans who unsurprisingly went wild when he was introduced.
With an event built around activities and keeping people interested for the whole time they were there, success can be measured by the amount of activities and whether attendees went home satisfied. From what I saw, Under Armour and Curry achieved those twin goals.
