Getting a chance to meet an NBA player could be rare for a kid growing up, but it’s such an amazing experience if they get the opportunity to do so. Basketball camps held by NBA players are usually expensive and quite frankly not everyone can afford them. Young kids can only dream to learn and play basketball with a professional basketball player.
Draymond Green has worked hard to establish himself as an NBA player and recognizes the importance of giving back to his community. According to Cory Butzin of MLive.com, Green hosted his first annual basketball clinic in his hometown of Saginaw, Michigan:
“It means a lot,” Green said. “Not too long ago, I was that same kid from Saginaw, Michigan wondering how do I live my dream? … I remember growing up going to the Darvin Ham camp and the Jason Richardson camp. To be able to come back and put one of these on myself is a dream come true.”
He welcomed 150 youngsters to his clinic along with an instructor staff that included Flintstone Mateen Cleaves, current Michigan State Spartans Matt Costello and Travis Trice and former Saginaw High star Eugene Seals.
Green has had a busy off-season so far, traveling to china and playing for the USA Select team in Las Vegas. For him to donate his time and money to host a basketball clinic is quite admirable. Green is such a positive role model for the kids and his journey to the NBA should inspire them to work hard and follow their dreams.
Green is entering his third year in the league with the Golden State Warriors and has improved every year. In Andrew Bogut’s absence in the first round of the playoffs last season against the Clippers, Green averaged 11.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Expectations for Green are sky high this upcoming season and he could earn a big pay day if he continues to play well.
