You would think that type of success would be recognized, but now it seems not too many people were watching the Warriors dominate on a nightly basis this season. According to Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group, Kawhi Leonard barely beat out Draymond Green for the Defensive Player of the Year award:
Draymond Green led all players with 45 first-place votes. But Kawhi Leonard racked up more second and third-place votes

This was an extremely close race, Leonard received 333 total points and Green had 317, only a 16 point difference. The frustrating part is that Green received more first place votes than Leonard, but Green was left off too many ballots. Leonard was able to make up the difference by getting more second and third place votes. What really hurt Green is the fact that so many voters didn’t have him on their ballot, 42 to be exact:

It’s absurd that so many voters left Green off the ballot. A few more second and third place votes could have been the difference. Green definitely deserved the award and now he will have an even bigger chip on his shoulder, which is bad news for the opposition.
