The Golden State Warriors have plenty of potent scorers, but could use a low post presence to compliment David Lee. Enter Andrew Bogut, who has a nice touch around the rim and has the ability to muscle his way to the basket. Last season, Bogut anchored a defense that was top 10 in the league and he looks to do the same this season. However, if the Warriors want to make a deep playoff run, they will need him to play a bigger role on the offensive end.
After his 10 point performance against the Los Angeles Clippers, Bogut talked about having more of an offensive mindset and understands that more will be asked of him when the ball is in hands:
This season more is going to be asked from me offensively to try and be playmaker and obviously try to score the ball in the post when I am going to catch it down there.
Bogut averaged 7.3 points and 10 rebounds per game last season, but in his career he has averaged 11.6. The Warriors don’t need Bogut to drop 20 points per game, but it is important for him to develop into an offensive threat. It is much more difficult for teams to double-team Steph Curry or Klay Thompson if they have the big 7-footer causing havoc in the paint. In Tuesday’s win against the Clippers, Bogut showed the ability to hit the elbow jumper and if he can continue that consistently, his offensive game will be a problem for the opposition.
Bogut will go up against Jordan Hill in tomorrow’s pre-season game against the Los Angeles Lakers and he’s known as a good defensive big man. This will be a great opportunity for Bogut to impose his will offensively against a formidable defender. This offense has potential to be one of the best in the league, but they need their big man to be a big part of that.
