The Golden State Warriors are deciding to waive a player from their roster who they had signed to a two-way contract last offseason.

Shams Charania is reporting that the Warriors are waiving Chris Boucher, who appeared in 1 NBA game last season for the Warriors. Boucher will now become an unrestricted free agent when the NBA free agency period begins on July 1.

Boucher has had quite the basketball journey. He was born in San Lucia but moved to Canada as a child and grew up in Montreal.

He dropped out of high school at age 16, but a strong performance in a basketball tournament led to a spot on an AAU team. Boucher had never played organized basketball before this.

Boucher spent the next two seasons playing at different community colleges, first at New Mexico Junior College and then Northwest College.

Boucher then decided to transfer to the University of Oregon, where he went on to make the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team twice.

During the 2017 Pac-12 Tournament he fell on his leg awkwardly but remained in the game. Later tests showed that he had torn his ACL.

Boucher was unable to work out for teams leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft as a result of this injury, and he ultimately wasn’t drafted.

The Warriors brought him aboard on a two-way contract. He played in 22 games for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League and averaged 11.8 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 2.1 blocks per game.

Boucher only played in 1 NBA game last season, registering 1 rebound in 1 minute of action while missing his only field goal attempt.

With this roster transaction, the Warriors will now be able to hand out two-way contracts to two players for next season.

Boucher can block shots and play defense, but weighs only 200 LBS at 6’10’’. The next team that brings him aboard will obviously try to have him bulk up.

Boucher put up solid numbers in the G League. There’ll be another team willing to take a chance on him and see if he can further develop his skills.

Although he only played in 1 game, Boucher will always be able to say he was a member of an NBA championship team. That’s more than most NBA players can claim.

Boucher has overcome huge obstacles to play in the NBA. Hopefully, he will be able to latch on with another team and earn the opportunity to make an impact.
