Warriors News: Draymond Green Wasn’t Fond of Bob McNair’s Comments

There is no denying that this is a tense time in our country. Regardless of your political affiliation, it doesn’t take a genius to understand the racial tension in this country. The NBA and its players have not shied away from the social issues, they have been very vocal, which is commendable given how the NFL and MLB have stayed away from it.

Today, Bob McNair, the owner of the Houston Texans made some comments about NFL players not standing up for the anthem. The billionaire owner, who is a Donald Trump supporter and contributor, said “We can’t have the inmates running the prison,” and those comments quickly made the rounds.

Several NFL players were quick to speak out against McNair, but one particular Warrior also took issue with his statement. Draymond Green, who is known to speak out regularly, went to his Instagram to respond to the comments made by McNair.

Wow! This sure does sound very Donald Sterling-esque. But I'm sure the fans pay to see him play and he's putting himself at risk of CTE by going out there every Sunday and giving 110%! Inmates? For starters, let's stop using the word owner and maybe use the word Chairman. To be owned by someone just sets a bad precedent to start. It sets the wrong tone. It gives one the wrong mindset. Webster states that an inmate is a person confined to an institution such as a prison or hospital. Not sure these tax paying men should be referred to as inmates- but what do I know?

Green quickly makes the comparison to Donald Sterling, the former Clippers owner who famously was recorded saying racist remarks about current and former players. Whether you agree with that comparison or not, McNair’s comments are unacceptable and he should face consequences.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year also suggested we stop calling them owners and maybe switch it to chairman, which makes a lot of sense given these specific comments. Again, regardless of what side of the aisle you’re from, comments like the ones McNair made don’t help anyone.
