The NBA season is days away and the Golden State Warriors are preparing to defend their championship. Winning back to back championships is a very difficult task and only a handful of teams in the history of the league have been able to get it done.
The Warriors came close, but we all know what happened after being up 3-1. Draymond Green was unfairly suspended and the Warriors lost their opportunity of winning back to back titles. You could argue that the Warriors could be chasing their fourth title in a row, but for now they will settle for their third title in four years.
The Warriors coasted through the post-season and finished with a 16-1 record, with their only loss coming at the hand of the Cavs in Game 4, where they shot a ridiculous percentage to win the game. However, ever since their dominating performance, the NBA has been scrambling to figure out how to compete with the Warriors.
One particular Warrior is very aware that the rest of this league has realized that the Warriors are simply on anther level. According to Clay Skipper of GQ, Green is enjoying watching the rest of the NBA struggle to catch up to the Warriors:
It’s pretty fucking sick to see how everybody is just in a fucking panic about what to do. You sit back and think, like, these motherfuckers, they know. That’s the fun part about it: They know they don’t stand a chance.”
The Warriors were a 73 win team and then they added Kevin Durant. It’s no secret that they have the best collection of talent in the league, along with an excellent coaching staffs and the best front office in the game. With this core group intact, the Warriors will be the favorite to win it all every single year.
You also have to give a lot of credit to the individual players, because players like Klay Thompson have sacrificed a lot for the sake of the team. Green has adapted to his environment and he makes his presence felt on the defensive end, which allows players like Steph Curry and Kevin Durant to dominate on the offensive end.
Green is right, looking at the rest of the NBA in panic mode while they try to figure out how to compete with the Warriors is satisfying for all Dubs fans. While nothing is guaranteed, the Warriors have to love their chances this season.
Maybe. The Warriors are certainly a deserving favorite. But as a Ws fan, I wish he’d let his play do more of the talking. Talk after you go back-to-back…
