Like his former coach, Gregg Popovich, Steve Kerr is beginning to build his coaching tree with the latest extension coming in the form of Luke Walton’s agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Alvin Gentry was last summer’s departure as he went on to coach Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans, but Gentry has been a head coach with other teams before. Walton will be the first coach Kerr hand picked for his staff to become a head coach for a NBA team.
The natural question after Walton leaves is “who is next?”
ESPN is speculating that the natural “assumption” would be Jarron Collins, another assistant on Kerr’s staff with playing experience in the NBA and local ties to the area as a Stanford alum.
Collins definitely has the smarts and has earned a tremendous amount of praise from Steve Kerr. With the way Steve Kerr is bringing along his young coaching staff, let’s hope he can keep finding great coaches to the lead the Warriors to continued success.
