The Warriors have one more thing to accomplish before they can truly celebrate this magical season. As the postseason continues, it is likely some of the players and coaches will be receiving individual awards from the league. Steph Curry is a lock to win his second Most Valuable Player award. Klay Thompson and Draymond Green will likely be All-NBA selections and could potentially be a part of the All-Defensive team as well.
After you win 73 games, the awards and recognition are expected. However, it is not every day that you get named as one Time’s 100 Most Influential People. Curry now shares that honor with people like Leonardo DiCaprio, Kendrick Lamar and Barack Obama.
Curry was listed under the Titans category. Other notable people that were named Titans were Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Pope Francis, Dwayne Johnson and Tim Cook. Misty Copeland is an accomplished ballet dancer, one of the very best in her industry and she wrote a few words on Curry and the impact he has on today’s youth. Here’s a short excerpt from her piece:
My definition of a role model is someone who maximizes their potential to push the boundaries of their circumstances with passion, purpose, integrity and the sensitivity to know they are setting an example for others along the way. Stephen Curry is a true role model. I can relate to his underdog story. He is showing us all how through belief in yourself, hard work and dedication, it is possible to achieve your dreams, prove your doubters wrong and go from an underdog to a Warrior. Lucky for us, he’s just getting started.
High praise for the best player in the league and he deserves it. Curry is changing the game and is doing it with humility and grace. This honor just comes to show that his dedication to the game of basketball is being recognized by people outside the game, which only a few players have accomplished.
The Warriors are no underdogs by any means, but they are in this position mainly because of Curry. He has proven his doubters wrong countless times and finally he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. Curry and the Warriors still have work to be done and the world will be watching what the MVP has under his sleeve.
