Throughout the duration of the basketball season, one team has been at the forefront of history nearly every single night. That team was the Golden State Warriors, and their 73rd win of the season, which came on Wednesday night, effectively validated their entire season and their place in basketball history.
There’s no debate to be had. The 2015-16 Warriors are the greatest regular season team in NBA history. No team in history had ever won 73 games in a season, but that no longer is the case after the season that Golden State put forth. They decimated everyone, and made their prowess known all over.
From Marcus Thompson II, Bay Area News Group Columnist:
This night was about validation. The Warriors handled business against the Grizzlies and got their 73rd win, secured their place in the conversation for greatest teams of all time. By climbing over the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, the Warriors have forced their way into an elite class. In a single season, they demolished all questions about their supremacy and the validity of their championship.
With only two teams having reached the 72-win plateau in history, this makes the debate between the Warriors and Bulls that much more ferocious. There will be those who claim that the Bulls were better, but Golden State won more games and had to deal with some stiff competition from all over the league.
Sure, there were speed bumps along the way, but the Warriors navigated through the choppy waters to finish with more wins than any team before them. You have to be thoroughly impressed by everything they did, and those 73 wins further validate everything they put in motion over the last several seasons.
