The Golden State Warriors will be welcoming the San Antonio Spurs into town on Thursday evening. While the game itself will already be hyped beyond belief, the real thing at stake will be even larger. If the Warriors win on Thursday, then they will secure homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs. If not, then the Spurs will still have a chance to steal it.
The Warriors have just four games remaining, two of which are against the Spurs. The other two are against the broken down Memphis Grizzlies. However, just one of those meetings with the Spurs is at home, and that’s the game on Thursday night. It could serve as a prelude to what’s about to come.
From Ray Ratto, columnist for CSN Bay Area dot com:
The Spurs come to town to remind the Warriors what this is really all about – winning April, May and June. And if the Warriors are what the organization has been saying it is all season long, it will deal with the true matter at hand.
Thursday night’s game is massive because if the Spurs win out, then they will be 70-12. By doing so, it would put the Warriors at 11 losses and a probable 71-11 record (if they beat Memphis twice). If that were to happen, then obviously, the Warriors would still have homecourt in the playoffs. However, if Golden State were to drop either of the two games to Memphis, homecourt could slip through the fingers.
It’s hard to take much away from matchups this late in the season between two teams just trying to get to the end of a long regular season and get some rest before the playoffs begin, but Thursday night could be a reminder of just how important every game truly is. The Warriors will need to get back to their winning ways and find their stride for the playoff push.
