With eight games left, the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs have two matchups before the end of the season. In their first two matchups, the teams split the series. In the first showdown, the Warriors waltzed away with a 120-90 victory. The Spurs were better prepared for the second match; they held the Dubs to a season low, 79 points.
It looks like Parker has spoiled Popovich’s plans on their final matchups with the Warriors. According to Jeff Garcia of News 4 San Antonio, Parker spoke on Popovich’s plans on sitting the starters on his French radio show:
I think no one will play (versus the Warriors). To Pop (Gregg Popovich), the most important thing is that the players are rested for the playoffs. As for first place, he does not care.
For us, the end of the regular season is a good time to rest. That’s why we play hard throughout the season, trying to win the most games possible, to find ourselves in this situation of “luxury,” we are sure we will be the second seed and we can all rest before the playoffs.
The next game is at the Oracle Arena on April 7th and the other, April 10th at the AT&T Center. This season, both teams are undefeated at home.
As you may already know, regular season wins are great, but at this point, it’s about winning championships. The Spurs are unlikely to catch the Warriors for the number one spot and with a 10 game lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers, they have already clinched the second best record in the league.
