Golden State Warriors point guard, Stephen Curry has captivated the hearts and minds of the collective basketball world over the last two seasons, and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. Due to that, he’s drawn the ire of several critics, but he also has a notable former player on his side.
Grant Hill, a former All-Star and one of the best forwards of his era, recently talked about the season that the Warriors and Curry were currently having, and the do-it-all dynamo from the past heaped a worthwhile amount of praise on the point guard’s ability to dominate and destroy the opposition.
From Rusty Simmons at the San Francisco Chronicle:
“The confidence that he’s playing with, the things that he’s doing, how he’s dominating: It’s remarkable and efficient. It’s almost like he’s playing with people out there. He’s doing whatever he wants.”
At times, it definitely does seem like Curry is just messing with whoever the opponent that night happens to be, and it leads to him definitely doing whatever he wants. While they’re playing checkers, Curry is playing chess and already putting the king in checkmate. He’s been that good.
But how good does Hill think Curry could actually eventually be?
“He might be the best player ever.”
Now that’s some ridiculous praise considering that casual fans and pundits alike believe and accept that Michael Jordan is the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of sneakers and bounce a basketball. If someone could top Jordan’s mystique, then it could definitely be Curry. That’s not a debate right now.
The Warriors are definitely the game’s biggest darling, and Curry is the game’s biggest star. As they each continue their run to dynastic greatness, the bar for Curry’s greatness could be somewhere in the stratosphere. If anyone can attain that lofty goal, it’s most certainly him.
