July is usually slow for sports. With the TV on, you can find baseball, WNBA, and Wimbledon. It’s easy to call it a step down from the glitz and glamor of the NBA Playoffs. With The top award ceremony for all of sports comes from ESPN. Although the may be biased and repetitive, it’s a great year for the Golden State Warriors. Stephen Curry is up for three different awards, while Klay Thompson is nominated and so is head coach, Steve Kerr.
Voting will end on July 15th at 8PM, just in time for the start of the show. This year’s host is comedian Joel McHale.
Steve Kerr
The “Best Coach / Manager” award selects the winning coaches from the NBA, NFL, NCAA, and NCAAF. Geno Auriemma has won NCAA Women’s Division I Basketball Championship and will defend a three-peat when the action returns.
There’s the infamous Bill Belichick who has shown the drive to win at any cost. We doubt he wins with the Deflategate scandal.
Our pick of course is Steve Kerr. The first year coach led the Warriors to the NBA’s best 67-15 regular season and handled throughout the postseason. Running through the Western Conference, they were matched up with LeBron James and handled their business in six games.
Mike Krzyewski led Duke to a NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. Many didn’t think Duke deserved the #1 seed in their bracket, but it’s not how your start, but how you finish.
Last but not least is Urban Meyer from Ohio State’s football program. The head coach won the NCAA’s first ever playoff. Getting rid of the BCS system, Ohio State was least likely to pull it off. LeBron was lucky to have Ohio State bring home a championship to the Buckeye state.
