Now, free agency is two days away, but the Warriors don’t have too much to worry about. They would love to unload David Lee, but that’s going to be difficult to do. The Warriors don’t have the cap space or the roster spots to be active in free agency, but they do need to ink an important piece to a new contract.
Draymond Green is a restricted free agent and he is looking forward to entering free agency. According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, Green will meet with several teams, including the Warriors and Pistons:
Despite the expected interest from Golden State and Detroit, Green told Yahoo Sports he would do his due diligence with all suitors when free agency arrives Wednesday. The Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets are also expected to be among the teams interested in Green, a source said. The 2015 first all-NBA defensive team selection said he is open to face-to-face team visits with any serious free-agent opportunity, too.
Before you start to panic, Green is a restricted free agent, which means the Warriors can match any offer that he receives. General manager Bob Myers has been adamant that Green will be back with the team, so they will likely have to match a max offer.
As a second round pick, this is the first time that Green has interest from several NBA teams. This will be Green’s big pay day and will explore all his options, which he has earned after a phenomenal season. Again, it’s important to understand that Green is not going anywhere, the Warriors would be foolish to let him walk.
