Marreese Speights is from St. Petersburg, Florida, which is the the second largest city in the Tampa Bay area. The Tampa Bay Rays are also located in St. Petersburg, so it only made sense that Mo Buckets was given the honor of throwing out the first pitch.
The big guy went out to the mount and threw a good pitch. The Rays’ official Twitter account posted a video of Speights’ pitch:
At 6-10, he’s got a pitcher’s build. @Mospeights16 delivered a strike for #Rays first pitch. 🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/dzRTClcGKx

Not bad for a basketball player. Speights didn’t throw a perfect strike, but his pitch was quite impressive. He definitely didn’t embarrass himself, which many have done before. At 6-foot-10, maybe Speights had the tools to be a pitcher, but we will never know.
The Rays were thrilled to have an NBA Champion on the mound and they ended up beating the Boston Red Sox 4-1. Maybe they bring back Mo Buckets the next time they need to guarantee a win.
