It was a pretty quiet day for the Golden State Warriors during the NBA Draft. When you’re the defending World Champions, the draft isn’t as important. Unlike teams who are hoping they landed their next franchise player, the Warriors’ roster is pretty much set.

The Warriors still selected Kevon Looney out of UCLA, a value pick at the 30th spot. Now, as free agency approaches, the Warriors have to make other roster decisions. Marreese Speights has a team option and the Warriors need to decide whether they want to keep the big man. According to Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group, general Bob Myers is leaning towards picking up Speights’ option.

Speights didn’t see the floor much in the NBA Finals, but he was an important piece during the championship season. Early on in the year when Andrew Bogut was hurt, Speights stepped in and played well. When the Warriors had trouble offensively, Speights was a good spark that would get them going.
Speights plays with a lot of confidence and the Warriors could use him off the bench. Speights would cost the Warriors $3.8 million, which is not bad considering what he brings to the table.
