Marreese Speights has been one of Steve Kerr’s most consistent players this season, which is surprising considering how much he struggled last season. Speights has solidified that second unit with his scoring punch and has done a great job filling in for Andrew Bogut.
Everything was going well for Speights, until he was held at gunpoint in a robbery attempt. He was lucky to escape unscathed from the whole ordeal and still play against that Thunder that evening. According to Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle, Speights is very happy to be alive:
Mo Speights on having a gun pulled on him: “As long as I’m living right now, that’s all that really matters.”

Sometimes we take life for granted and after going through an experience like that, Speights is very appreciative to be alive and well. It’s not easy to forget about having a gun pulled on you, Speights probably wants to move forward and put it behind him. His focus in on the Warriors and winning games.
While Speights played on that same night, he had one of this worst games of the season. He played 17 minutes and only scored six points. He shot 1 for 8 from the field, but he’s picked it up since then. He’s back to looking like himself, scoring in double digits these last two games.
