The greatest thing an athlete can do for the world won’t be seen on the playing surface in front of millions of fans. In fact, the greatest thing they can do is use their influence and bring awareness to global issues that have been swept aside. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has been working with Nothing But Nets in the fight against Malaria.

For those who aren’t familiar with Malaria, it is the leading cause of death for children in Africa. The nets are treated with insecticide to protect those in their beds over night. Malaria is spread through mosquito bite; caused by the blood parasite Plasmodium.

Curry began helping by donating 14 nets. Each net is in honor of each of his teammates on the Warriors roster. According to Nothing But Nets, they have sent 7.5 million bed nets to 29 countries with goals of donating more:

On top of his initial donations, With every three-point shot Curry makes, he will donate three bed nets. This is an amazing contribution as any NBA fan will tell you Curry ranks as one of the best shooters. The Golden State Warriors will match his donation. Curry’s other charity work includes the Stephen Curry Foundation, Curry Family Classic, and Stephen Curry ThanksUSA Charity Gold Tournament.
