Since LeBron James made his decision to go back home and rejoin the Cleveland Cavaliers, many expected them to strongly pursue a trade for Kevin Love. The Minnesota Timberwolves have made it clear that they won’t trade Love unless they are receiving some valuable pieces in return. The Wolves want number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins, but the Cavs originally said they wouldn’t include him in any type of package that would send him to Minnesota.

Wiggins is currently playing for the Cavs in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and has been able to display his incredible athleticism in the last few days, which is why most believed the Cavs would not part with the small forward. Now, the Cavs have reportedly changed their mind about Wiggins, and according to Bob Finnan of The Morning Journal & The News-Herald, they are now willing to trade him to Minnesota for Love:
A league source said on July 17 that the Cavs are now willing to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Up until this point, it was assumed the Cavs wanted to hang onto Wiggins, largely because of comments made by Coach David Blatt.
However, a source said James wants the 6-10, 250-pound Love on the roster.
And, what James wants, he normally gets.
Before arriving to the University of Kansas, Wiggins was regarded as a can’t miss prospect and was already slated as the number a overall pick before he even played one minute of college basketball. His season at Kansas was not what many had hoped for, but his athleticism and upside were enough to convince the Cavs to select him with the number one pick. Wiggins might not be as sure a thing as LeBron, but he does have potential to be a great player in this league.
The Golden State Warriors are facing a similar dilemma, but have chosen not to include Klay Thompson in a trade for Love. However, since LeBron shifted the whole landscape of the NBA, it now seems likely that they are no longer the favorites to land the 6-foot-10 power forward. The Timberwolves are in no rush and will likely use Cleveland’s deal to try and leverage a better one, but it’s in their best interest to get rid of Love before it’s too late.
