The inevitable has happened…Mike Brown is out as Head Coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Ric Bucher is reporting the Cavaliers have let go of Brown before the midnight deadline which would have seen Brown collect $4.5 million from the Cavs for next season.

The removal of Brown from the Head Coaching seat comes as no surprise as the talk around the league since the Celtics ousted Cleveland from the playoffs had been of Brown being fired. Brown spent 5 very successful seasons in Cleveland highlighted by a trip to the NBA Finals. Naysayers will trash Brown by saying he was nothing more than a puppet and LeBron was the real man in charge. While Brown wasn’t the most exciting or innovating coach, he got his team to compete and play hard everyday. His teams were known for their defense and other than LeBron they weren’t the most talented collection of players.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens next in Cleveland as the future of the franchise rest in the hands of LeBron. Should LeBron choose to re-sign with the Cavs it makes the Head Coaching position the most attractive opening in the NBA. If LeBron chooses to skip town and say goodbye to Cleveland the ramifications will be catastrophic for the Cavaliers. Without LeBron, the Cavaliers may be the worst team in the NBA as they have little financial wiggle room or young talent on the roster.

For now, we sit and back watch awaiting the next move LeBron makes and no one will be playing closer attention than the city of Cleveland.
