3. Experience
As mentioned earlier, this Spurs team has years of experience and they know how to win. Time and time again we saw the Spurs execute flawlessly in last night’s game. Is it because they have better individual players? No, you can argue that the Splash Brothers are currently better than any player on their roster.
One thing fans must understand that this Spurs team has been together for years and they have multiple championships under their belt. They might be labeled as a boring team, but that’s because they play unselfish basketball. Their organization has done a great job of assembling the core players of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili. Each three have accepted their role and have bought into coach Popovich’s plan. Ginobili will probably go down as the best 6th man in the history of the NBA and his play showed it last night. He finished with 17 points and five assists.
The Spurs have also done an amazing job of finding not only great role players, but ones that fit the San Antonio system. Last night, Corey Joseph 11 points and 4 assists, but the next game it might be somebody new who steps up. The Spurs have so much depth and that is why they rest their star players and keep them fresh for the regular season.
The Spurs have mastered how to win games, which is something the Warriors are learning as they go along. We can only hope the Spurs will eventually pass the torch, but in order for that to happen the Warriors must learn from the Spurs and follow a similar formula.
